On August 14, 1974, a massacre took place in the villages of Muratağa, Sandallar, and Atlılar, a dark stain on human history. EOKA-B militia brutally massacred defenseless Turkish Cypriots, young and old, women and children alike. Innocent people were buried en masse in pits, families were wiped out, and villages were left in silence.

When Greek Cypriot and Greek Cypriot forces failed to halt their attacks and withdraw from Turkish villages, the Second Peace Operation was launched to protect the Turkish Cypriot people and put an end to this brutality. This operation was not merely a military operation; it was a guarantee of a people's struggle for existence and a secure future.

Today, we commemorate with mercy, gratitude, and respect all our martyrs who gave their lives for independence and freedom, especially the innocents massacred in Muratağa, Sandallar, and Atlılar.
