TATAR: “I BELIEVE THAT THE REPORT FROM THE WORKSHOP WILL GUIDE THE GOVERNMENTS”

In his speech at the workshop, President Ersin Tatar thanked those who contributed to the study and expressed his belief that very important results would emerge from the workshop.

Emphasizing that the Turkish Cypriot community has always attached great importance to the family structure, children and education of their children, including during the period of national struggle, Tatar stated that one of the most important factors that brought the Turkish Cypriot community to this day is its solid family structure.

Talking about the altruistic nature of Turkish Cypriot families, Tatar emphasized the importance of preserving the family structure in the new age.

Stating that the majority of teachers who entered the state with public exams in the last 5 years are women, Tatar said that women not only educate their own children but also children in schools.

Wishing to raise a generation that is healthy, able to think well, and attaches importance to its traditions and national identity, Tatar noted that such studies jointly with the Republic of Turkey are very valuable.

Expressing his belief that the report from the Family Workshop will guide those who run the state, Tatar congratulated those who contributed to the organization of the workshop and wished it to be beneficial.

BAŞÇERİ: “THE FAMILY HAS AN IMPORTANT PLACE IN TURKISH SOCIETY FOR ANY TIME”

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Ali Murat Başşeri expressed his happiness to be at the Family Workshop and thanked those who contributed to the workshop.

Stressing that each society has its own unique family structure, Başçeri shared his thoughts on the Turkish family structure.

Stressing that the institution of family has an important role in creating the cultures of societies as well as ensuring the continuation of the lineage, Başçeri said, “The more solid foundations the family is built on in a society, the stronger the society continues to develop in a solid structure.”

Emphasizing that the family has had an important place in Turkish society for a long time, Başçeri said, “The idea that the most important reason for Turks to preserve their existence until today despite their dispersal from their homeland to many parts of the world is the soundness of their family structure, which is now accepted by many social scientists.”

Stating that throughout history, all Turkish states have taken all kinds of measures to protect and strengthen family unity, Başceri states that in the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, “Family is the foundation of Turkish society and is based on equality between spouses. The state takes the necessary measures and establishes the organization to ensure the peace and welfare of the family, especially the protection of the mother and her children, and the teaching and practice of family planning.

Expressing that the understanding that a peaceful society comes from a peaceful family maintains its value, Başçeri said, "A strong family means a strong nation and a strong state."

Stating that it is very important to make young people and children understand the importance of the family institution, Başçeri said that the Family Workshop was a step taken in this direction and contributed to the effort.

BENTER: “DO WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO BE UNSELFISH, TO DO GOODNESS?”

İbrahim Benter, General Manager of Cyprus Foundations Administration, started his speech by expressing his happiness for supporting this workshop, which he stated was much needed.

Stating that the Cyprus Foundations Administration celebrated its 450th anniversary this year, Benter described the Cyprus Foundations Administration as “a 450-year-old institution of charity”.

Talking about the works of foundations for the good of society, Benter emphasized that 450 years ago, our “grandmothers and grandfathers” set an example to the world and explained that the Foundations still continue the tradition of their ancestors.

In his speech, Benter said, “Do we teach our children not to be selfish and to do good in our homes and schools?” He stated that they will continue to contribute to such efforts to support the family institution in the TRNC.

SİBEL TATAR: “A STRONG INDIVIDUAL MEANS THE FORMATION OF A STRONG AND STRONG SOCIETY”

President Ersin Tatar's wife, Sibel Tatar, noted that the workshop was held under the auspices of the Presidency, with the work of the Presidential Social Support Committee and the Cyprus Foundations Administration, and stated that it will be a workshop that will consist of approximately 200 people from 30 institutions, organizations and related ministries. . Tatar noted that in the workshop, many problems, especially domestic problems and divorce, will be discussed.

Emphasizing that the family is the foundation of society, Tatar described the family as the place where an individual gets his first education and sees wrong and right.

“A solid individual means the formation of a solid and strong society. The right to protect the family is directly related to the protection of the rights of the child,” Tatar said, emphasizing the importance of growing up in a family environment where happiness, love and understanding prevail, so that the child's personality can develop fully and harmoniously.

In his speech, Tatar stated, “In the preamble of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it has been stated that the family is the basic unit of society and creates the natural environment for the development and well-being of all its members, especially children. It has been accepted that the child should grow up in a family environment in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding in order for his personality to develop fully and harmoniously.

Emphasizing that both marriage and divorce are natural and legal rights, Sibel Tatar said, “Just as providing legal assistance to individuals who have decided to divorce is a human rights issue and the responsibility of the state, it is also necessary to take measures to enable the continuation of marriage and to be supported by the state. Likewise, it is envisaged that a support unit consisting of lawyers and psychologists will be provided by the state in order to minimize the harm to children from the divorce process.

“I BELIEVE THAT THE PROTECTION OF THE FAMILY SHOULD BE A NATIONAL STRATEGIC GOAL WITH VARIOUS SUPPORT”

Talking about the erosion in the family institution, Tatar pointed out that marriage rates are gradually decreasing and divorce rates are increasing.

Tatar expressed his belief that the protection of the family institution should be accepted as a fundamental human rights issue and that the protection of the family should be a national strategic goal with various supports.

Announcing that they will organize the "Children's Rights Workshop" on March 21-22, Sibel Tatar also announced that they will launch "Parent Schools" in public schools in the beginning of April, under the auspices of the Presidency. Noting that they have prepared a "Happy Children's Parent Handbook", Tatar explained that they will distribute this book to parents who come to Parent Schools, and wished that the said book would be given to the parents of each child when they enroll their child in school.

Sibel Tatar ended her speech by wishing that the workshop would be productive.

Following the opening speeches, the Family Panel in TRNC started. In this context, Prof. Dr. Sibel Dinçyürek "Statistical Data on Family Studies and Divorce in TRNC"; Assist. Assoc. Dr. Emine Koçano Rodoslu “Protection of Marriage Union in TRNC Family Law”; Dr. Mehmet Gedik made a presentation on "Family Structure and Current Problems in Europe".

After the presentations, “Understanding the family better”, “Why did our family ties weaken? What will happen in the future?” and "Reasons for dissolution of marriages and solution proposals", and a general evaluation and question and answer section was started.

The first day of the workshop, which is planned to last until 17:30 today, will end with the presentation of the summary report.
