Paphos Castle

Paphos Castle is a castle located on the edge of Paphos harbor. After the island passed under Ottoman control, it was restored and strengthened. It has seen many uses over the ages. During the British occupation of the island, it served as a fort, prison, and even salt depot. More recently, the castle forms the background for the annual open-air Paphos cultural festival held in September. It was declared a protected building in 1935 and represents one of the most distinctive landmarks of Paphos City. Several archaeological excavations have been conducted to investigate its past.
