History
The Baldöken Ottoman Cemetery is one of Kyrenia’s most historically significant sites. Archaeological remains suggest it was used even in Roman and Byzantine times. Initially located outside the city during the Ottoman period, the area has become central due to urban expansion. Today, the cemetery contains a few remaining graves, a water cistern, and a tomb believed to belong to Halil Dizdar of Kyrenia, executed in the 18th century. The cemetery reflects the city’s urban transformation and preserves a solemn atmosphere that connects visitors with the past.
