Arabahmet Mosque and Fountain

History

Built in the 16th century, the Arabahmet Mosque is a classical Ottoman neighborhood mosque distinguished by its detailed stonework and graceful decorations. Surrounded by a peaceful garden with historic tombstones, the mosque has been a key part of the area’s social life. Architectural features such as its mihrab, pulpit, and finely carved wooden elements reflect the aesthetics of the era. Located in the same district, the Arabahmet Fountain is a historic water structure built with ornate masonry, once providing water to the community. Together, the mosque and the fountain are rare examples of preserved Ottoman neighborhood culture. Thanks to restoration efforts, both structures continue to offer visitors a chance to experience a historic atmosphere and are considered essential cultural landmarks of Nicosia.
