Fringed House
Located in the Nicosia Hagia Sophia mosque area, the two-storey mansion is open to visitors as a museum.
We can say that it is one of the remarkable mansions of Nicosia with its square-shaped inner courtyard and L-shaped structure. Especially the upper floor bears the deep traces of the Ottoman architectural style. It is known that the name (Fringed House) comes from here.
The structure was built as a mansion on the ruins of the Middle Ages during the Ottoman period.
Above the entrance door of the building, there is information about the restoration of the building in 1932. The mansion room with multiple windows was made with the bagdadi technique.
The main materials used in the construction of the building are cut stone and adobe. Over time, the large rooms downstairs were divided into smaller ones and turned into shops with doors opening in their walls along the street. Expropriated in 1986, the building was restored between 1994-96.
During the restoration, later additions to the building were removed and it was used as an art gallery and a center for artistic activities in general. On December 23, 1996, Saçaklı Evi was officially opened as the Culture and Art Center.
