Black winter had descended on Istanbul. The wind was howling. That harmonious voice, heard at the same time every day, began to be heard again: I have come to take the leftovers of my whole day!

The little boy with his nose against the glass suddenly got excited and called to his mother, who was cleaning the table: -Mother, mother, uncle bird came, quickly. His mother had already collected the scraps of food and bread in a bowl. She held the boy's hand for her to take to the door. -I want to go with that uncle tomorrow too, mom. I also want to look at the birds.

"Oh my merciful son," his mother stroked his hair. But these foods are left in remote places where wild animals can find them.

-Who is this bird uncle?

-An employee of the foundation established by our Sultan. This uncle regularly collects the leftover food from the tables, takes it to the places where wild animals are and leaves it. The poor animals, who have difficulty in finding food especially in the snow in the winter, are also feeding their stomachs. That way, the food doesn't go to waste. Waste is prevented.

This well-thought-out foundation is both an important example of Ottoman foundation civilization and an indication of the compassion our ancestors felt towards other living things.

It was founded by Sultan Mehmed III Nam in Hijri 1021, Gregorian 1613 under the name of Sultan Ahmed Khan Foundation in Istanbul.
