The 454th anniversary of the establishment of the Cyprus Foundations Administration and the 69th anniversary of its transfer from the British Colonial Administration to the Turkish Cypriot people were celebrated with a ceremony.

The ceremony, which began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, continued with the laying of a wreath on the bust of Atatürk. Then, the speeches began.

Following the speeches, the award ceremony for the “Contributions of Foundations to Society” inter-primary school painting competition, sponsored by Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell and in cooperation with the Cyprus Foundations Administration and the Ministry of National Education, was held.

In his speech at the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar stated that they came together in the historical building today to celebrate the 454th anniversary of the establishment of the Cyprus Foundations and the 69th anniversary of its transfer from the British to the Turkish Cypriot people.

Tatar, who expressed that he remembered with gratitude and respect those who contributed to the Cyprus Foundations Administration to come to this day, noted that very important values ​​were passed on from the Foundations Administration management.

Tatar, who touched on the importance of the Cyprus Foundations Administration, said, “The Foundations Administration has great services in the TRNC coming to this point. The people as a whole, with their spirituality and values, have made a great contribution to the continuation of our national values ​​and existence here on the path to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This is also our value. It is an expression of our national, spiritual and, in a way, freedom.”

Tatar, who used the expression, “The Cyprus Foundations Administration is a monument of honesty. Every penny has a value here,” expressed his trust in those who manage the institution.

Tatar, who noted that there are thousands of foundations and that the assets entrusted to them by their ancestors should be utilized in the best way, touched on the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people in these lands since 1571.

Emphasizing that Maraş is the property of foundations, Tatar said, “Those buildings were erected during the British period by giving them away, and today we are still struggling for this.”

Stating that there are thousands of acres of land belonging to foundations in Southern Cyprus, Tatar stated that the Foundations Administration has 3 thousand acres of property in the sovereigns of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot people will continue to struggle for this in order to protect all these values ​​and fulfill the responsibility placed on their shoulders.

Tümer: “The foundation is the legacy of the past and the guarantee of the future”

Mustafa Tümer, the General Manager of the Cyprus Foundations Administration, said, “This year, we are proud to celebrate the 454th anniversary of the Cyprus Foundations Administration, which has served the people of Cyprus for centuries and left deep marks on the social, cultural and economic texture of the society.”

Tümer also noted that the transfer of foundation assets and management from the British Colonial Administration to the Turkish Cypriot community has reached its 69th year.

“The foundation is one of the most beautiful examples of civilization, solidarity, sharing and social responsibility. The foundations established in Cyprus since the Ottoman period have provided services in a wide range from education to health, from protecting the poor to maintaining religious structures for centuries.” Tümer stated that since the British Colonial Administration began to govern the island in 1878, foundation assets in Cyprus have also faced long years of neglect and mismanagement.

Tümer stated that as a result of the struggles in 1956, the Foundation Administration was taken from the British administration and given to the control of the Turkish Cypriot community and regained its original mission.

Tümer, who also touched upon the history of the Cyprus Foundations Administration Headquarters building, stated that the Cyprus Foundations Administration continues to carry its historical heritage and corporate identity into the future by preserving it.

Tümer said, “Today, the Cyprus Foundations Administration continues its work with an understanding that is in line with the requirements of the age with the strength it derives from its roots, while preserving its historical heritage and at the same time shedding light on the future.” and stated that the institution, which combines the foundation understanding with a modern vision with education, social assistance, culture-art and restoration projects, continues to build a bridge between the past and the future.

Tümer, who also touched upon the projects they are carrying out, said, “We plan our activities by blending the past with the present, aiming for the highest public benefit.”

Tümer, who respectfully and gratefully commemorated the founders of the Cyprus Foundations Administration, its hardworking managers and all benefactors who keep the foundation spirit alive, said, “We express once again that we will continue to progress with determination on the path of serving our society. The foundation is the legacy of the past and the guarantee of the future.”
