Recently, an article in the Greek Cypriot press claimed that properties in Dipkarpaz were leased to different individuals under false pretenses, resulting in unjust profits. Additionally, it alleged that the Cyprus Evkaf Administration had confiscated lands in the Afendrika (Efendi) area.

These claims are entirely baseless and lack substantial information regarding Evkaf's historical mission and legal status. In this context, the allegations of Evkaf seizing the mentioned lands are completely unfounded.

It's important to emphasize that we possess historical documents and records proving Evkaf's ownership of properties in the Afendrika (Efendi) region. These documents clearly demonstrate that the lands in Afendrika have been under the status of waqf (religious endowment) throughout history, a status that has been preserved over time. As evidenced by the registered documents in the Waqf Registry Book shared by us, Evkaf's right to manage and lease properties in this area is based on historical and legal grounds.

According to the record in the Cyprus Waqf Registry Book dated May 16, 1881, the relevant lands were endowed to the Hala Sultan Tekke by Kara Mustafa Pasha, indicating their waqf status. This area comprises 12,500 acres, of which only 2,000 acres are leased to the public for agricultural purposes.

As it is known, Evkaf is a venerable institution responsible for managing waqf properties dating back to the Ottoman era in Cyprus. It is widely acknowledged that these waqf properties have served the benefit of all communities on the island for centuries. The primary duty of Evkaf is to ensure that these properties are managed in accordance with their purpose and that their revenues are used for the benefit of society.

It is crucial not to lend credence to such unfounded allegations and to ensure that the public is properly informed. We strongly urge members of the press to act responsibly and refrain from misleading the public with false and biased news.
