As a result, students, albeit with some difficulty and frustration, had to bid farewell to messy handwriting in order to earn higher grades.

One, two, three lessons… Gradually, towards the end, the handwriting of each student had improved significantly.

They themselves were surprised at their success when they became proficient in handwriting.

When they went to thank him for his kindness, their teacher told them the following:

"Listen, children. Writing beautifully is a historical tradition for us. That's why some of the greatest calligraphers in the world have emerged from our midst.

Foundations have even been established for this purpose. For example, the Mustafa Efendi Foundation in Istanbul is one such foundation.

"The calligrapher will teach students beautiful handwriting (hüsn-ü hat) for a minimum of two days a week; their teachers will be paid ten akçe daily."
